Hey guys, I recently pulled a mid 40's heavy truck out of a chunk of property by my house. The cab is pretty rotten, the head (and some other parts) is missing and the engine is about scrap. I wandered around on craigslist, and found an H-series that'll bolt into place. The last guy said the cam had a bad lobe, pulled it, and chucked it. I didn't get a chance to pull the head and check whether it's new H or old H, but I'm in need of direction on where to look. Are there any companies out there selling cams for the inline power house? The frame on the truck is covered in surface rust, but no rot, so it's perfect for my uses. The rear axle isn't rotten, but some of the lugs on the 10 lug hubs have been snapped off. Not sure if I'll be running the heavy rear, but I'm really excited about this inline 6. Any 226 gurus have input on it? I've been scouring the interwebs and found basic numbers info, but does anybody have real world, hands on building experience with them? Thanks in advance guys.
I haven't seen a cam for the h series by itself but did see one for the g and the 254. Parts for the 226 are hard to find and when you do expensive as FYI.
From what I've read, they changed the cam in 1950, so if I still have the split valve guides a G series will work for me. I realize it's not a cheap engine to build, but besides the cam, all I need to do is rings. Have a full machine shop at my disposal, so I'm not worried about millwork costs. Just have to find that dang cam. Lol
There's a fellow in the Lansing area who has come across stashes of flathead parts. Look to contact Cody_1948. You'll need a few more posts to send PMs.
That would be awesome, being that close. I like the sound and look of the inline 6, so I'd like to stay with it, but if I can't find a cam, I guess I'll just settle and go with a flatty 8. Those parts are pretty ubiquitous. Lol

I think I have an extra used cam that is good if you are interested and I am in Michigan as well. PM me if you think a used cam will work for you.
Yeah cougar54 I'd take any cam as long as it'll work. Lol. Can you shoot me an email? I can't PM on here yet. I think it's 10 days and 5 posts, and I just signed up yesterday. Bryan11587@gmail.com
Yes cougar54, as long as it'll open my valves, I'll be interested. Lol. I'm in lansing every week for work, but can't PM on here yet. I live in kawkawlin, so I'd only be about an hour or so from you.

I had to look up Kawkawlin as I had no idea where it was. You are about 90 miles from me but probably not very far when you go to Lansing as I am only a few miles off of I96 (exit 155) a bit east of your normal travels. Send me a note and we can talk.
Thanks! I didn't feel like being another 350 sbc rat, so I figured different. I found the 226 and love the torque straight sixxers have, so I figured I'd go with it, even though I know nothing about them. Can't be too bad being a flatty, and no electronics, right? Lol

You're right about the torque. With my 226 and 5:14 rear gears, I have literally pulled a tree stump.
Welcome!
The I-6's are very underrated IMHO, Glad to see you're pursuing it. FYI, the broken studs are no big deal. Very easy to get over the counter at any class 8 truck parts store, NAPA, or online. Same with the inner and outer nuts, LH & RH.
