Hi all first post here, Just got my first X(and Ford) a couple days ago.
Anyways, the cruise control doesn't work.
I checked the CC switch on the master and it tested fine and I installed new switches on the steering wheel.
When I do the self diagnostic test with the steering wheel switches they all test fine, and on the last button(set) it lights up, but no other flashes. What does that mean?
In 1 thread it stats that 0 flashes is the speed control servo, but before spending the money on that can anyone confirm?
When seeking internet diagnostics it ALWAYS helpful to state what you are working on & the year X is a little vague.

Very common & easy fix most of the time.
If you are running it down the road & hit the 1st switch, what happens ?? When you hit the 2nd ??
LOL, sorry thought I added all that. Anyways its a 2001 v10 4x4, Chicago area.
So, a local parts store had the brake light switch and with it only 15 bucks I figured I try it out.
No, go.....I did the self diagnostic test again and on the last button of the test after it flashes I hear some type of motor engaging in the engine compartment. I assume that is the cruise control servo. its kind of loud.
As far as pushing button when I drive. twice while repeatedly hitting the on button I got the cruise light on dash to come on, but I would not let me "set" the cruise. Mainly though the cruise light just does not even come on unless its with the self diagnostic testing with the vehicle off.
Sounds like you ARE hearing the servo ( the 2nd most common issue)
The 1st is the brake Master Cyc pressure switch. Do you have a short jumper installed or is plugged into the main harness directly ?? Is the pressure switch wet/leaking ?? You can test the fuss-able link patch (if you have one) by removing it & plug in directly. If you do not have one get one & a new pressure switch. YOU should find joy at that point
Mine acted the same way. Went thought the test...heard the noise under the hood too. I wound up replacing the servo..problem solved. Expensive...but fixed...

With a 2nd pair of eyes you can watch the servo working OR NOT
The cruise can set codes without turning on the light. Seen it many times when that ABS pressure switch dies or when a steering wheel switch gets stuck. Check them with a reader to be sure.
I had the wife help me with mine and if memory serves and it was moving under testing...but not functioning in actual use. After playing with and talking to a tech friend I bought the servo.
That being said, mine was intermittent in use. It would set, and then disconnect immediately.
