Thumbs down Re-Mapping Computer

I have a 2003 6.8L 4X4 Eddie Bauer Edition Excursion. This is my 3rd and it was a sad day when Ford stopped making them.

My issue is there is a governor setting at 95mph. I found this out when in Miami stopped on the I95 behind a wreck. When the flag was dropped 4 lanes of traffic took off and when we hit 95 it started breaking up. Dropped back to 90, as everyone was passing me, and punched it again. As it lurched forward I knew it had a lot to give but it died again at 95mph. I was looking to re-map my computer to remove this but would also like to know if there is a decent plug and play system, like what the diesels have, to enhance performance, fuel economy, etc.

It could be set with a limiter at 95 MPH because its NOT SAFE and irresponsible to drive an 8000 lb. beast at that speed.

HOWEVER... If you MUST get that rig of yours over 100 (Several of us have, but in controlled environments and NOT in the heat of the moment like you did) call Mike at 5Star and get yourself an SCT Tuner.

This^^^^^^

However if you said you were on I75 crossing to Naples that would be ok for a little while

Just happy myself or the oldguyfl didn't see it, I wouldn't do that speed in my excursion on that section of 95 personally.

If you get a tuner, I'm sure the gasser guys will chime in with the preferred ones that would take care of the limiter.

If my commute required more than the 75MPH these crazy Texas 2 lane highways have, I would park the Excursion and drive something else. Two solid axles on leaf springs is not what I want under me at 95MPH. However that is just my opinion. Tuners can do what you need and remove the limiter. A lot of people here using 5 Star.

Geez, y'all act like these things are going to flip and roll at the slightest provocation

Mine cruises at 100mph beautifully, it does it fairly frequently.

Another vote for the 5Star guys - they have a great reputation around FTE for several gasser types, not just the V10.

Yes, but in a "Finally the traffic is open and I want to be free" moment you're not using your best judgment and he said himself he was getting passed. He was trying to do over 95 and couldn't. To take a completely stock over 100 is COMPLETELY different from some of us doing it. If an internal breaks and he loses his brakes will he know how to handle it? If he has a blowout can he safely steer it off the road (could I even?!?)? Remember how bad our rigs were when we first got them? Even mine needed a little work when I got it and Razzi had it for a month before I got it!

Matt, I understand what your saying. I love driving fast when the road permits it, but 95 in Miami is not one of those roads. Maybe 95 north of palm beach...

It's a British thing

Cruising at 100 the engine is hardy working, that's pretty much what that means...

That was on a stretch of 95 in the boonies on a Sunday morning with zero traffic, exits or on ramps...

Glad I never taken pics while in the Lambo
