Just got my 2016 f 250 . I was washing the the truck and noticed that the shinny chrome wheels that I paid $1195 for are nothing more than aluminum wheels with plastic hub caps glued to them WOW If I would have known that I think I would not have gotten them and got aftermarket . Talk about making profits I feel like I have sucker written all over me .
Yup, I guess it's so you have the benefit of a steel wheel with a nice look.
Mess one up you have to buy a whole wheel, you can't get just the cover from what I hear.
My last superduty had nice looking aluminum wheels but they were corroding and would leak. I had to keep throwing beadseal on em.
Don't worry, if you bought them for looks the material doesn't matter. I had such wheels on a 2007 Edge and had 5 years service from them with no problems, they did the job.
My 2016 F350 Lariat also has the shiny 20" wheels. They are aluminum with a shiny plastic cover. I had that "sucker" feeling also. The 2011 I traded in had much nicer wheels, but they were 18". If they had been 20" I would have had the dealer swap them. The newer wheels, while shiny when clean, require some elbow grease to get them shiny.
Earliest I heard of this happening was dodge with the old 20" wheels in the second or 3rd year of production so 2005 era. This is nothing new and if you check your order guide it will say something about being chrome clad.
