Hey guys. My little sister has a 1995 f150 with a 4.9 IL6 in it and it's been having some issues. Every now and then when the truck is warm it won't start back up again after you turn it off. We have confirmed it stops getting fuel because when it died we sprayed ether in the intake, it started then dies after the ether runs out. We're wondering if there are any common fuel problems with these trucks. We replaced the fuel filter, and you can hear the fuel pump running. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.
Fuel cutting out then doesn't make sense. When you spray ether in and it dies, it is just burning the ether which is easier to ignite than gasoline. I wonder if your ECT is bad causing spark to be cut and the motor to die.
If the truck is running, it won't die, or try to. When you turn it off, is when t won't start up again. But we know it's a fuel problem because when we gave it ether, it started then died.
When it doesn't start, does the fuel pump run continuously with the key on? If so, the computer is toast. Open it up, and you'll probably find some bad capacitors.
We need to know if you have enough fuel pressure with a gauge.
If you have fuel pressure then the injectors are not firing and that could mean you have a bad computer also. In that case you need to pull the computer out and check its capacitors.
If it does not have fuel pressure:
Dose this truck have two tanks?
If so have you tried the other tank?
What codes are you getting in KOEO & CM?
Does one of the tanks fill while driving?
