Hey all,
just bought this '78. 302 with "three on the tree", and in pretty good shape...BUT I need some advice on arresting the rust present on the body. It has two rusted thru spots on either lower panel just aft of the door.(You can just about make out one of them). One is slightly bigger than a quarter, the other not quite that size. Plus there are numerous surface rust patches that I need to address before they get worse. Is there a commercially available rust inhibitor that I can use or what do you recommend. I can't afford a full paint job and body work right now, but want to at least hold what I got until I can. Thanks.
Permatex makes a rust converter in a little white bottle or a blue spray can. I use the white brush on extensively in my shop. It is a thick white liquid that you brush on the rust and it will turn a blackish color in a few minutes. If it doesn't completely turn blackish give it another coat or two. Available in auto parts stores for about $10.00. It should do exactly what you want. (the spray is NOT very impressive so make sure to use the brush on). Good luck! gary
