5.8L is what I've heard.

Don't know if it was true, but I heard something about a Supercharged 5.8 option in that new bronco for 18'. maybe that's the same engine. I can't imagine them adding an NA 5.8 to the SD lineup.

I doubt you will see a S/C in a Super Duty (or anywhere else in Ford anymore for that matter). I could see a 5.8L with a single turbo (or even 2) slapped on it though...

I wouldn't mind seeing something like an ecoboost 5.4, 5.8 or 6.2 or a n/a 7+ liter big block.

I could 100% see a Coyote based 5.8 in a Super Duty.

Brings me to another question.. What is the main logic behind using turbos, instead of a supercharger? ...I guess the turbos are lighter, cheaper, saves more fuel?

Basic version, superchargers are belt driven and provide boost based on rpm. Turbos are exhaust gas driven and give you the option of no boost under light acceleration(fuel savings under light acceleration and more power under heavy acceleration).

On one of the other forums guys were talking about the 5.0 turbo charged engine that Ford has developed so that would be my guess.

I have heard the new engine is a 5.8L too. Doesn't make much sense because it sounds like the 6.2L will continue as well.

Superchargers are better off idle though, and don't usually lag like turbo's. Superchagers typically have power all through the range. Turbo's are a bit more efficient, but are usually best in the mid range RPM's on any production vehicle. Turbo's also create more heat in general.

The main reason for turbos is efficiency. Turbos use waste energy from the exhaust, whereas superchargers are belt-driven, meaning they zap power from the engine. I've heard 10% as a good figure of energy needed to run a super charger.

I'm thinking the 6.2L will remain low-tech whereas the 5.8L will be DI and DOHC, maybe even turbo charged.
