I have looked at a lot of radio bezels and I have never seen one like this. It's an ordinary burl wood bezel ~except the name plate area has woodgrain print instead of being black... weird.
To me the grain pattern looks continuous. The clusters of burl spots and wood grain stripes carry over in other words. But I have a theory... If you look at the black trim line around the radio opening it has some chips and damage. There is burl print under the black. I think I remember this from one of my rosewood bezels also. If that is the case, maybe the wood grain pattern is alway there in the emblem area underneath black paint and someone managed to peel it off... just a theory...
According to this work several gurus did some time ago, the 85-86 Burlwood w/radio cutout but w/o clock would say "D" or "G". But, this one say "H". My guess that we just didn't get a complete sampling and this is a later version.
Hmmm, I'm seeing the makings of another web page. I had to do a lot of searching on FTE for that info.
That looks like my radio bezel in my 86 Lariat. The wood is consistent, but it has the raised edges for a typical 2X7 opening I believe.
Still has the original Ford High Def tape player that works too!
My 86 Lariat has the usual bezel with the black portions on it, who knows, yours and the one from the link may be some sort of trial or prototype, I've never seen any bezels like those

The burl wood in my dash looks to be pretty similar to what you found in that auction one, but I guess you're right, I've never seen one that has the grain on it all the way through.
