Broke connector

So the connector for the positive post on the passenger side battery broke. I am speaking of the cable that connects both batteries together.

So I went and bought a metal (not lead) connector to attach to the positive cable that connects the batteries together and installed that first on the positive post and then put the starter cable on top of that. And I used that in a pinch to get the truck to run with both batteries being used.

My question, which I have looked all over the Internet for an answer and can't find one:
Is it safe to use a metal type of connector instead of a lead connector?
Mostly I am concerned with conductivity.

I will eventually buy the complete replacement for a new cable with the correct connectors.

Anyways, simple question I hope, for a simple answer.

Thanks - Preston

It's not the best but in a pinch it will work.
You are going to want to get some dielectric grease on it ASAP to keep the
dissimilar metals from reacting with each other.

Get some NOCCO battery corrosion protectant in the aerosol can. Awesome stuff.

I found the NOCO, looks like good stuff.
Thanks Mike.

I'll put the first ring terminal on the positive post, that the wire is connected too, then put the starter cable ring terminal on top and spray that as well.

You should also spray any bare copper in the cable that's showing. Do it on both batterys and avoid future cable connection problems.

My factory connector is metal, not lead. I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks Rusty, I think mine is as well, but then I looked at it first, it was a cruddy orange color, so I thought it was copper. Turns out its the old dielectric spray on stuff that is or was red. LOL

Any of the replacement ends will work. Corrosion caused by outgassing is more of a problem than dissimilar metals. Using one of the "sealants" like Noco or battery terminal spray, even ordinary grease will work, is a good general maintenance precaution.
