Okay guys so this p0172 code has kept popping up and will not go away. I have replaced most of my vacuum hoses, pcv valve, put new o-rings and cleaned my injectors out, and attempted spraying break cleaner around the hoses that I did not replace. I couldn't find anything wrong.
On the other hand, while rotating my tires today I turned the truck on for the heck of it and heard buzzing noise coming from the top of my fuel tank. I don't know if I need to replace the pump or if I just have a clogged fuel filter.. My Fuel regulator is working fine by the way. I am stumped and do not know what to do from here.
Symptoms
-Idling is a little rough but not too bad
-A little but of hesitation
-Mileage isn't all that great
Some tips and information would be great! Thank you!
You made a good effort but for the wrong type problem.
The 172 code is a bank 1 'rich' code not lean.
Therefore air leaks are not the issue.
There is likely either a leaking injector or the fuel regulator is leaking gas into the intake through the vacuum line.
Check for any cause of excess fuel.
In rare times the OX sensor may contribute to the problem.
When it does, the fuel table for the bank is automatically set to make the fuel rich rather than lean to protect the motor.
This is the same action that occurs for cold starting when the OX sensors have not heated enough to send fuel control feedback signals..
.
The code is set when that bank's fuel table is shifted lean more than 25% trying to correct for excess fuel.
Good luck.
I dropped a valve and had my top end rebuilt two years ago and ever since I have had the same problem... I'm tried of dumping cash into this pos truck. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? It has been to like 10 different dealers and diesel shops and every time they give me a 2k bill and dies a few mins after I leave the shop . At the dealer right now and they are replacing the injector seals again. He says that should fix the problem lol
the code is RICH fuel on ONE BANK.... Do you have any other codes like misfire that might make you think coil / plug / etc ? If not, then you are looking at a leaking injector or bad MAF... but that should effect BOTH banks of the motor.
