I kind of like it. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised you don't see that more often on trucks that get used for work. Seems like a great way to protect the top of the bed and gain a bit more bed capacity under certain circumstances.

This morning I was parking in our church parking lot and backed in to a coconut tree. Guess what?
The newly installed bedrail took most of the hit. Since the tree has a lean to it, the angle of the tree actually hit the bedrail first.
The bedrail tweaked a little and the tree did actually touch the upper rear corner of the truck bed leaving some barely visible marks on the clear coat.
By the bedrail making impact sounds first, I was able to stop early enough to prevent body damage.
