a Bedrail

I had these on the ʻ02, these were slammed together made using Trex, well, just because.

It kind of went well with the ʻ02.

Rails helped corral tools back then.

NEXT.

What do you think?
Keep them.

Ditch them.

Keep natural color.

Paint black.

Use Higher end wood like: Koa, Sapele, Teak.

Reproduce in fiberglass.

Mind you, these do help ME in practical reasons. I may also incorporate a removable lumber rack into the final design (if any).

Since you're in Hawaii, I'd say stain them dark to contrast the truck then apply several coats of marine grade varnish for that glossy finished look.

Nice wood working BTW.

I kind of like it. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised you don't see that more often on trucks that get used for work. Seems like a great way to protect the top of the bed and gain a bit more bed capacity under certain circumstances.

I say paint them to match the black plastic trim

I'd love to see about of a distance shot of them. I was actually considering the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't find and pics to see how they looked.

I did something similar on my old '84 Flareside, an old fashioned look that's functional too.

My first thought was to use a dark hardwood, but I was too lazy to actually mill down any roughsawn material at the time.

I very well could still do it and keep this set as a back up.

Iʻll get a wide photo tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

I like them! And the finish work actually ties in nicely with the grill. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but well done.

Yes the design is intentional, all to mimic various lines and angles found throughout the truck.

I could not afford a Lariat with the wood trim on the inside of the cab, so I spent 18.00 to put the wood trim on the outside of my work truck.

Thanks for your input. I still have other material options too I have been considering such as smooth fiberglass or carbon fiber.

Backed into a coconut tree

This morning I was parking in our church parking lot and backed in to a coconut tree. Guess what?

The newly installed bedrail took most of the hit. Since the tree has a lean to it, the angle of the tree actually hit the bedrail first.

The bedrail tweaked a little and the tree did actually touch the upper rear corner of the truck bed leaving some barely visible marks on the clear coat.

By the bedrail making impact sounds first, I was able to stop early enough to prevent body damage.

That's the Hawaiin State Flag... looks like it was cut in half and put upside down though.
