Timing gears

Hi,
I have a 1985 f250 with the 300.
Dirt cheap ignition hei.
1979 yfa.
Anyway I'm looking for a steel/ metal timing set.
auto parts store around here only list fiber gear...
Did earlier sets use metal ?
Are the factory gears retarded ?
Cam set for use with stock exhaust ?
Ty !

Or check RockAuto, they have some OEM replacement metal sets that aren't as pricey. Comp makes a set too.

The problem with OEM replacements is they don't correct the cam timing. Especially if you are doing a cam swap. You want the cam installed straight up. That's what's nice about the Cloyes it's adjustable. If it's too expensive then check Comp cams. They sell a set that will be slightly cheaper.
