My 2015 f350 6.2 truck started making this whine noise..Sounds like a bearing. Stops at 40 seconds..Any thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ol1...ature=youtu.be

If you do a forum search, you will find many posts about the same thing. Mine has been doing it since day 1, but only when it's "cold" outside, like around 20-ish degrees and colder.

Would love for Ford to come up with a fix and do a service bulletin on this one.

Mine just started doing this at 15600 miles. I saw another thread about this. Can't believe there is no resolution to the problem. I can put up with it until something breaks. I know it won't make the noise at the dealer.

remove the serpentine belt before stating .. start engine. .. is the sound gone.. reinstall belt

3 idlers pulleys, alternator, power steering, water pump, air conditioning compressor.
all have bearings... and can make noise when dry.

Thanks. I tried that and they all sound good..no roughness or anything that would indicate a bad bearing..This morning it started with no noise at all at 30 degrees. only does it when it's real cold like 10 degrees or colder. If it was a bearing I think it would be noisy all the time?

Mine is similar - but only about half as loud as yours, and about half an octave lower in pitch. Lasts about 30 seconds.... It's noticeable below 20 degrees, and get louder as the temperature goes lower.

This past Sunday was the worst I've heard mine. The dashboard thermometer read -9 degrees.
I use full synthetic Mobil 1, so that gives me just about the best cold start oil flow without using some sort of exotic Military grade oil designed for Arctic use.

It's happened to me a few times too. It doesn't seem like a set amount of time. Longest it lasted was about 30sec. shortest was just a few seconds. This isn't just a belt making the noise? I thought maybe it was just some ice or moisture on a belt.

I thought maybe it was the belt. I took it off yesterday to check pulleys which seemed fine. I rinse the belt off with a garden hose and reinstalled it. Didn't make the noise today but it was 30 degrees. I will see if it still does it when real cold as soon as it's gets colder.

Mine makes a similar noise, just not as loud. I think the coldest my dash has read was 7. I did ask the dealer about it and they said some noise was normal. They put a note in my file in-case something happens after warranty.

Whine

It's the power steering pump---it can't get the PS fluid fast enough when it's very cold--it's too thick.

I wonder if there is a better power steering fluid for cold weather use.

I didn't think of that..I guess it could be that since it only does it when it's real cold.

Hey, folks!

Definitely bring any concerning noises to the attention of your dealership; they'll be in the best position to determine if a repair is needed. If you'd like me to step in and assist, send over your details in a PM. When writing, please include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Truck made the same noise at 16 degrees today. I called dealer. They said they never heard of a whine noise from a newer super duty truck. I asked him if he wanted to see the video I made and he said they can't use videos of sounds to diagnose problems. They have to actually hear it. I have to set up an appointment when it will be very cold and there isn't much cold weather in the forecast. I told the service guy others on this forum had that same noise. He said he's been there for years and never heard of it. He did say it could be a normal cold weather sound. Thing is I've had the truck for 17 months and it just started doing this?
