Hey guys, I am stumped, I have a 95 F-250 with a 460ci. It works fine most of the time but now and then it will crank and crank without starting. I know I have fuel pressure at the rail so spark has to be the problem. I have replaced the coil and the Ignition module on the drivers fender because I needed the truck. It worked fine for a couple days and then wouldn't start again. Both times I put a spark plug in the coil wire to see if it had spark, it did, so I put a plug in a regular plug wire and both times I did that it started. Any ideas what would cause me to intermittently lose spark? Oh BTW, I have replaced the cap and rotor as well. Any help would be awesome, thanks for reading.
Fuel at the rail means nothing if the injectors aren't firing. When it just cranks and cranks, does your fuel pump keep running with the key in the on position?
Intermittent spark problem is probably the PIP sensor inside of the distributor. There are ways of testing it but I am not sure how to do it.
Had the same problem with my 302 - would randomly cut off and not restart right away. When it did start it would run great til it would cut out again. I replaced the coil, ICM, cap, rotor, plugs, wires before I figured it out. I just replaced the whole distributor since it is a PITA to replace the PIP and you have to pull the distributor to replace it anyways.
Cool, I think tomorrow I will throw a set of plug wires at it an hope there is something wrong with the coil wire that I cant see. If that doesn't fix it I guess the distributor will me my next move.
