I have 23,000 miles and am going to get new tires next week. I wasn't happy when I recieved my new truck and they had Firestones. Any new truck I have purchased the tires that came on them did not get very good wear on them. I think I will buy Les Schwab tires, I've had good luck with them.

My '02 Powerstroke Crew Cab SRW F250 came with the Firestones. It has 31,000 miles and there is still a lot of tread left. Also a friend of mine who owns a tire shop told me that the Firestones are wearing really well on his powerstroke and that he's seeing the same thing on many of his customers trucks.

there is nothing amatter with Firestone Atx's on our trucks. I'm into my second set with 71k on a 99psd. I did have one tire that had a bulge\separation between the outer and inner layers on the sidewall but i was compensated as I purchased a new tire. sk

I too have a 02 PSD with the original Firestones. I thought mine was giving up around 17K but asked this same question in this forum and everyone told me I was not rotating them enough. The fronts were wearing bad. Moved them to the back to let the good back ones catch up and now have 44K on them and probably will not replace until 50K or so.

My 02 PSD has it second set of Firestone tires on it. Don't know how many miles the original ones had but the truck has 92,000 miles right now and I measured them the other day and still have 7 to 9/32s left. I do know that the previous owner carried alot of weight on this truck( 200 gallon fuel barrel and tool boxes) all the time so I would think that this would have hurried along some of the wear. I currently have a custom made L-shaped fuel tank(140 gallon) with a built in chrome tool box so with this less weight, I ought to get a few more miles out of these tires.

My original Firrestone Steeltex lasted 65000 miles. They still had tread on them. Replaced with a set of Generals. Only lasted 7000 and they were shot. Replaced them with Michilins. Have about 105000 miles on the truck now.Not happy with the Michilins, About 3/4 wore out, no traction on wet roads. Think I'm going back to the Firestone Steeltex but will probaly go with 285's this time. I've found that rotating and balancing is the key to longtivity. I get my tires rotated every 6 to 8 thousand miles.

My '01 350 4x4 crew cab dually justed hit 40,000 two days ago. It has General tires which have been carrying a 4200 camper for about half of this mileage. The front ones are cupped and the rear ones are down to the wear bars in the center of the tread. I have new tires on order, but I am also going with new rims as well. I am going to switch to 19.5 inch rims which will use load range F or G tires. This should double to triple the tread life of the tire as well as give me a huge safety factor in load capacity. By switching to all steel rims, I will now be able to rotate on a regular basis so that in 30,000 miles, each of the tires will have spent 5,000 miles in each of the six different positions. This was not possible with the factory Aluminum rims. This is an expensive switch, but I plan to own that truck for another couple hundred thousand, and in that sort of mileage, it will more than pay for itself. And then of course, I can put those rims on my replacement truck in 18 or 20 years.

There are lots of mixed comments with Firestone tires. The NHTSB has received over 1800 complaints just on the 2002 F350 over the Firestone Tire Quality. Ford states when asked: "we have severed our 96 year relationship with Firestone in 2001". I asked the question "then why does my 2002 have Firestone tires?". They responded "please provide your VIN and selling dealership for further investigation for your claim", "we value our customers and want your vehicle to be satisfactory is every way".
I only have about 23K miles on the firestone tires, the tread is fine but the sidewalls fall apart from driving offroad and rubbing curbs. So in the past, when they wear I just go to the tire shop (the ford dealer owns) and buy the Firestone tires that the customers remove (new) from their trucks. They charge about $50 a tire including balancing.
I really like the Michelin tires (about $165 each at Sams Club), traction and quality, except the tread wears out pretty fast for the high price. Maybe it is the weight of the truck, because on our other Fleet Vehicles we use Michelin and they last 60+.

My X, like all other 3/4 ton trucks/SUV's built by Ford, came with the Firestone's on them. Mine lasted for almost 2 years, but I never did like the way they rode or wore. To that end, I got some Michelin LTX M/S tires put on and they run great. They're expensive at $165-170 a pop at Sams Club, but, the ride is smoother and if I'm not mistaken I get slightly better mileage if that has anything to do with it. 3/4 ton F-Series as well as Excursion owners also go for the Bfgs (BF Goodrich). That's just two of a few options as far as tires go. And that's just my 2 cents.

I get and prefer the Michelin LTX M/S they are without a doubt the best. I get a bout 80,000 miles on em. Of course they are about $225 dollars a piece but hell only the 3rd set on the truck.

My brother runs a 2000 F350 psd and I run a2000 F250 psd. Both of these came with firewstone tires on them. He went through 3 sets inside of 40,000 miles due to belt sepeation. He now has Michilens on his and they appear to be doing good but they cost a lot more. Mine haven't had the seperation problem but are not wearing like I expected. This will be my last set of firestone tires, I also am going to the Michilens. My 2001 Mercury sable also has firestones and I am having belt seperation problems on it, It will no longer have firestones on it either.

I just had a steeltex radial blowout on the left front of my wifes F250. It wrapped around the axle yanked the wheel out of my hand at 70 mph and dived into the cable barriers in the median. The truck was screwed up and had to be towed and the fire department had to come out and cut the cables. the tire gave no advance warning no shimmey or wobble just a loud bang, and the steel belt wrapped around the axle and tore the abs sytem off and locked up the wheel. Just about three week ago I took the tire guages in and checked them against a calibrated guage, the ones in the trucks were good the one in the T-bird was low by five lbs the big truck guage I have is good but only works from fifty psi up, and my low pressure tractor guage was screwed. I had a cheapy guage in a tool box that I used for hand trucks and stuff that was really bad, it read about 15 psi low but I was just using it for little utility tires at work so most of them had 45 psi instead of 30.
