[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Feb-02 AT 05:27 PM (EST)]The valve covers are easy but time comsuming to replace. One thing to remember is that the upper intake has six bolts holding it on. Only the front, rear, and drivers side bolts are visible. There is a bolt on the passenger side that is a torx. I believe it is a T30, I have seen broken upper intakes from people not knowing that there was a bolt there and prying on them. Use a bit with an extension recomend 1)4 drive, there is an opening in the intake that you can reach down to remove the bolt. Losen the bolt and leave it in the hole, when you put the upper intake on make sure you put the bolt in before you put the intake on this way you do not have to fish the bolt down in there. I usualy take the trottle body off the upper intake and leave it in there that way you do not disturb the cooling system, because there are to 5)16 lines that run coolant to the throttle body. The only thing else I recommend is using gaskets from the dealer. They will not all slide around when you put them on because they stay their shape since they have a steel center in the rubber. Cork seems to like to be retorqued, wich is pretty much impossible on the passenger side.
I'm just about the step in and replace my VC gaskets , which leak. This is also as a warm-up to my upcoming iol pan gasket replacement.
How helpful are gasket dressings for this ? I'm using a fel-pro cork that have the metal washers.Or can/should I just plop them in after cleaning the surfaces ? no instructions came with the gaskets..TIA
