trying to change the oil in my 2004 ford f250 with 6.0 L diesel. When I pushed oil filter back down into place with filter cap on I heard a pop. When I pulled the filter back up the little plastic pin in center of oil filter housing and the spring came out. How bad will this be to fix. I know that the oil return can be replaced but I am worried that the small piece of the center pin might fall into my oil pan. Any idea or suggestions.
I think you have to get a new oil filter standpipe. (Don't forget, You need one too Tideman) If you have the correct filter and cap it will stay in place but best to replace ASAP.

What about the small piece that broke. Is there a chance it fell into the pan or cause trouble.
Rusty, I replaced mine after you stayed on my case :-)
Scotthud, you're probably ok there, but replace the standpipe. Mine did the same thing, didn't think too much about it at the time. The more I thought about it the more it worried me. Like Rusty says. Replace then sleep.
thanks Guys. GOt some new Rancho shocks to install tomorrow. I guess I will order standpipe and get it replaced. It just worried me that something might have dropped into the engine and cause problems down the road.
thanks; enjoy the start of NASCAR. Watching the race now
Find the broken piece. The same happen to me but I didn't know it broke. 12 miles later it died. Ended up taking out my HPOP. This was on a 2005 v4 pump. Here's a pic of the pieces I recovered. Notice the tabs are gone, never seen again.
removed the old stand tube. found all of the pieces from the center pin that broke. Waiting for tomorrow to get dealer supplied item.
Does anyone have suggestions for removal of shocks on front of 2WD F-250. My upper nuts can't be accessed from outside of the wheel well. I tried on the passenger side with long extension but evaporator is in the way.
Mine's 4wd but yes it's a booger to get in there. I good gear wrench is a plus.
Did all 4 corners on mine tires on the ground. The drivers side is the hardest due to a couple of lines that you have to reposition. Some just take the fender wells out. I almost did but was too lazy to

Glad you were able to get the pieces. Mine broke during assembly but gave no indication so I had no idea until I took it apart for diagnosis after it quit running.
For shocks I usually nip off the nuts with a cutting torch because they're usually rusted.
