N Series Chassis Differences

Hello Everyone,

I have been researching N series trucks as the platform for building a car hauler. I have done what research I can, but have a few questions I can't find the answer to.

First, I do know that it appears all 60's F500's had a GVWR of 15,000 pounds. I can't find much info on the N500 GVRW and what I have found is across the board and all the way up to 20,000 lbs. So I can stay below 26,000 GCWR, and pull a 10,000 pound trailer, I really would like to find a chassis with a 16,000 pound or less rating.

If necessary, I could put a N series cab on an F500 chasis, but before I go that route or just looking at a late model chassis, I thought I would see if anyone out there can help me with this question.

Second question is the frame difference between the N series trucks. I am assuming, but could be wrong, that an N800 frame will be taller and heavier than an N500 frame, but how about the difference between an N500 and an N600...... and how different these are from the F or even C series frame/chassis.

Cheers, Lance

The truck's specific MODEL code stamped on the Warranty Plate decodes to the specific GWV which is also stamped on the 3rd line of the Warranty Plate.

N Series: 1963/69.
