I own a 1999 2.5L with dual spark plugs. The idea sounds cool on paper but when you hear they are only for cleaning up the exiting air, I see it as disappointing.
I pay for 8 plugs, and only 4 of them actually run the engine?
Well what if I decided to duplicate the ignition coils so that they both run the engine?
Sure the EPA will be hunting me down like a mad man.
But don't you think the extra spark would make the engine pull much better, especially at lower rpms? A perfect $5 mod for an engines that needs all the help it can get?
You misunderstand how the dual-plug system works. Both plugs fire on ignition, AND both plugs fire on the exhaust stroke. The reason is because the same coil services two cylinders. The firing on the exhaust stroke does nothing, it does not clean up anything. For that reason it's called a waste spark.
Dual plugs will increase power, decrease fuel consumption, reduce emissions, and reduce octane requirements. It almost sounds like "snake oil", but it does work.
