Been out plowing about 30 hours this week. About Mile from house check gauges sign came on. Once I got home lifted hood and top of engine appeared to be leaking coolant. Hoping someone cheap but doesn't seem it to me. What u guys think?
It appears to be leaking from the thermostat itself and now that I recall the radiator hose was extremely hard. It it normal when the thermostat goes to leak out the top of the thermostat housing?
A leak is never "normal" - without a lot more information, we won't be able to help.
It could just be a coolant leak and the engine got hot because of it. The hose being hard is a sign that there's pressure in the system, probably because of an overheat and the coolant is starting to boil. Could be a lot of things.
i refilled the coolant bottle and took the trick for a 5 mile run gauge got to running temp but never over. Obviously this isn't just going to go away where did all the coolant I lost go to lol?
Check the hose clamps, I have had several of the factory spring style clamps fail on my 06 V10 and leak, worm drive hose clamps are my preferred replacement.
Thanks for all the input guys, today I refilled the radiator it took almost 2 gallons of coolant. Took it for a 10 mile ride and plowed parking lot and the coolant bottle lost some coolant but when I **** the truck off it refilled to the previous fill point. Worst case if it's head gaskets or the intake manifold so it a extremely expensive repair? I bought the truck to make extra money plowing for the state and at this point it ain't looking good lol
So today I took the truck for another 15-20 mile test ride truck didn't lose any coolant but still smelled like coolant but I think that's for the leftover coolant in the top of the engine. As I was checking the pressure of the hose fro the radiator to the thermostat it started gushing coolant out of the hose closest to the thermostat. Twigsv10 thanks for that info because indeed the clamp was completely rusted off and not doing a damn thing lol. I hope and hope that's the problem I will keep, you guys updated
My '01 had the radiator hose clamped replaced before I even bought it brand-new off the lot - there was a TSB out for that year where the clamps didn't have enough spring to them.
