So I located what I believe to be a transmission for my truck. The consensus is among my buddies that this is an NP 435. But here is the question.
My 78 4x4 is a short bed, and I'm told I need the married transfer case setup, not the divorce. And the divorce setup will NOT work because it sets back too far from the front axle toward the real axle, and you would have to cut the rear shaft and lengthen the front shaft . And by doing so, the shortened rear shaft would vibrate too much because of the increased operating angles. It's maybe doable, but lots of labor.
So, here my second question. Is this the divorce setup or married in these pictures? This transmission is out of a 79 4x4. Will this setup work in my short bed? Again, as mentioned before guys, this stuff is all new to me.
