So I had a thought and wanted to see if any of you have tried this out or currently do this.
I was thinking that for not a lot of money I could make up a filter system using the spin on filters that you use for home use on the end of my garden hose before it goes in the side of the trailer. Was thinking about a carbon one to offset any taste from treated water while on the road, not really concerned about my home water as I am on a well the is very clean and already going through filter and water softener.

This is a very common mod, and one the first most new owners perform. I used to have one myself that sat in a milk crate. But, in the interest of space and just general pain in the behind stuff, I started using the blue inline water filters sold at WalMart. I hang on to the little rubber plugs that come with it, cap it and store it in the refrigerator between uses.
Oh, and don't use a garden hose for your drinking (potable) water. WalMart also sells potable water hoses that are inert and won't introduce oils, chemicals, or other icky stuff into your water. I carry one 20 foot and two 10 foot hoses.
The last 3 Forest River's we have had come with the filter built in. PITA to change and winterize because the location of installation. They look just like the house type and take the same filters, what I didn't realize was the diameter of the housing is slightly smaller than the house type. Got so cold the housing broke year before last and had to buy the special camper version, think it was like 60.00. I bought 1 to go camping and then when I got home I bypassed it. I'll just use the hose type from now on.
