T 98?

I have a 50 F5 with a flat head 6 4 speed crash box, I have a line on a T 98 out of a 51 truck but it has no bell housing or rear mount on it, will I be able to use my old bell housing and mount or fab. my old mount to fit, I believe I have to shorten the drive shaft. Thanks for your info

The half bell on the T98 is different than the one you have on the T9. The hole for the bearing retainer on the T98 is larger. Everything else on the half bell is the same, you can bore the hole larger to fit the T98. The rear mount is also different. The foot is facing rearward on the T9 and forward on the T98.

Mark pretty much nailed it. Here is a thread where he provided pictures to go with the description: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-an-f-2-a.html

Thanks for posting the link, Fred. I thought that I had posted the photos but I wasn't sure where. I do have a couple of T98 half bell if anyone needs one.

I may want one of your T-98 half bells. My Ditch-Witch transmission half bell is drilled for smaller dowel pins than are in the McBar 337-to-early-Ford adapter I have. Also, the Ditch-Witch half bell looks kinda ugly compared to the stock Ford unit. Depending on cost it may be more cost effective (the polite way to say cheeper...) to bore out one of the T-9 half bells I have.

Van Pelt will probably have the seal. If you have a good auto parts or bearing store in your area you can bring in your old seal and they can probably match it up.

The rear seal in the T98 is the same as the T9. The Ford part # for the seal is 01T-4813A. That number crosses over to a National part # 410308. My flange yoke on my transmission had a pretty deep groove worn in it from the seal so I turned the yoke down from 2.125" to 2.0625". Ford actually offered a seal with the smaller I.D. part # 01T-4813 which crosses to a National # 450307. The flange yoke, brake drum and brake band are the same between the T9 and T98 also. The linkage from the brake handle to the band is different though, the T98 is longer. There is no front seal in either transmission.
If you have a bearing supply house locally they should be able to supply the seal, the National number is a common one. Napa or your local auto parts should be able to cross the National number to their house brand. I believe O'Reilly sells National.
