Well, my power assist pump is on it's last leg and leaking like crazy. I'm tight for funds, so for the time being I'd just assume remove the pump, loop the lines on the rack, and call it even as a quick fix. However, on my 302, the power steering pump is the only thing providing tension to the fan/water pump belt. The alternator wouldn't line up to use one belt, so I'm looking for advice.
I could try adding stop leak to the pump, but would be concerned over how this would effect the rack.
If the pump were to run dry, would the pulley seize? Again, for the short term, if I get stuck with the old iron man steering, I could get by, but certainly not if the fan stopped spinning.
Thanks.
Edit: FYI, 1975 F-100, 2wd, 302.

Reason: Lack of info
Just convert it over to dodge power steering, I did that using a 75 ram gear, my stock pump, and a custom hose made at a hyd store. Pick up a gear from a pick a part for under $50. I was at a local p.a.p. last week and noticed the same gear is used on dodge and jeep trucks into the 90's.
Mine has been turning 44x18.50 tires since 1988....not a single leak and I can turn nearly 40" of rubber on the road at a dead stop with my pinkie finger.
Thanks for the reply. On this truck, I am forced to keep everything in perspective. It's an ugly son of a gun, it runs well, but it's not worth extensive work or money. The pump works well enough, so I think I'm just going to end up dumping some Lucas stop leak in there to keep it on the road awhile longer, it's going on a long trip next month, and I need to focus my finances on a few other things at the moment.
