got a call from one of the guys i know, his new to him 05 F350 6.0 plow truck lost power steering and brake assist.
he stopped and called me. i went over with 2 quarts ATF and filled it up. under the AIS and on top of the crossmember you can see the ATF being pumped out. the front diff and associated stuff is covered in ATF.
anyone have an idea what line he should be looking at? it is kind of crowded in there.
i am kind of thinking it is the hydroboost pressure line, but not sure
Sounds likely. There have been a few cases of line nuts just backing off and causing a leak. I believe one of the lines is two piece and can spit out an o-ring also. There is really no good way to find it except to get under there with a rag and chase it down.
yea, we were in a snow covered parking lot and it was cold as a witches heart at the time. i told him to keep an ear open for pump whine and fill it if it started making noise, and to take it home to his garage, turn the heat on, and let it dry off.
Don't forget, a sudden failure will affect steering and brakes could lead to a bad awww crap! moment. Be safe
If you look up a line for it on many part store websites they often have an exploded view of all the lines. Good way to get familiar with the layout of the system.
yup, that is why he stopped where he did, because he went to slow down and he lost brake assist.
he actually is a school bus mechanic, but never messed with fords until he bought his clean 05 6.0 last year. then he got this one 2 months ago to use as a beater/plow truck.
he was a died in the wool dodge freak until he got smart junked the dodges and bought a real truck!!
