I am putting on new tires on my tuck. I currently have 31-10 1/2 on 15 in rims. IM am putting on 33-12 1/2 on it this x-mass. I was wondering if the 3.55 gears on my truck would work well with these size tires. If not need to know how far i need to go up on the gears. I was goin to put 4.11 on it but i think that is to high for what i do but i dont know. Can anyone help me please thanks.
Originally your truck came with P235/75/R15 (at least the majority did), which the actual diameter is about 28.9. The gear ratio on your truck is 3.55 so if you put on "33's it would turn the ratio into a 3.12, now to retain the stock ratio you would have to use 4.04 gears, but since they don’t make 4.04, 4.11 would be perfect.
As to how well “33 would work with your stock ratio, it depends how you use the truck.
If you tow often then it’s to you benefit to change them. If it’s a work truck or a highway truck, you can change them if you have the extra cash, but if not don’t worry about it.
And that’s my opinion!
i know this is kindof old, but maybe your still wondering!..... i put 285/75R16's (just about 33's) on my truck and i have 3:55 gears... i like it.. i wouldnt like it for towing, but for roasting off the line it is perfect... start out in second and can go over 60kms without reving too high in second... it's good. (i also have mods that keep my revs down, but even before, it was good).
