Interesting thought. I will have to look closer.
It looks like they are original rivets, but we will see.
Another interesting thing is that the frame rail brackets are narrower in the front and gradually get wider to the back. So something must have been done.

Another nice script flatbed in PA

Joe, I know you have your flatbed now or is it two?

But I found another good one in PA on Craigslist. It is in Spring Grove, PA which is in York County inSouth Central PA. it is a Ford Script bed even though it is currently on a Bumpside, 1967 to 72 pickup. 67-72 Ford Flatbeds had FORD in block letters.

Here is the link: https://york.craigslist.org/pts/5460298839.html

He wants $800 for it.

That's a nice looking bed. More than I want to spend, but I will probably have that in mine by the time I'm done. That one someone can just set on their truck and go.

They are pretty sturdy too. Loaded these logs this morning, but I did it slowly and carefully because I know how hard it is to find a good one. Also I have a lot of time in the new wood deck.

Well I got some time to work on my bed.
I drilled out the rivets on the back side. Under the frame rail brackets there was some rust through. I will be looking into seeing if I can get it replaced. I'm beginning to think that piece was replaced at some time.

I took a 1/4" drill bit and drilled out the rivets:

I then took a big ball peen hammer and this $3 Harbor Freight pry bar and knocked the heads off. Most of them just took a couple of whacks.

Here is the rust through. It was like this under both brackets:

I put this up on sawhorses to get to everything easier. That was a challenge doing it by myself. I used jack stands to get it up about halfway. Then I muscled it up the rest of the way while kicking the sawhorses underneath.

This weekend I hope to remove all the rivets on all the frame brackets since they will have to be adjusted for my frame. Only about 30 more rivets to go. Of course the manufacturing place in town is open Mon-Thurs and I emailed them after they closed today.

Cougar54.... I know this thread it a bit old. Wanted to see if you still had the script bed?

Unfortunately no, it ended up in the scrap yard since I could not find anyone who wanted it. I cut it up and kept the actual Ford script rear member and the rest went away. The only pieces I have left from that project is a nice set of the short running boards and that rear member. Everything else was pretty much scrapped. The running boards were too nice to scrap. Sorry.

I have an 8’ script bed listed for sale in the swap threads. And if you need running boards I have a set of them too. Stu

NYAlex - if you are needing an 8’ flatbed, I’d like to find a home for mine. Mine isn’t perfect but is worth saving. I’m sure shipping of a bed from IL to NY is a concern. If it could be made feasible as an alternative to shipping, I’m preparing to ship an engine to Chuck’s Trucks in CT. If fuel cost sharing would save us both some expense I could deliver the engine to Chuck and deliver the bed to you or meet you on the road to hand it off.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Stu

Hi Doug,
I need to build or buy a flatbed for my 55 F350. How wide is your bed panel? If I get the local HS ag kids to build a bed they might be able to incorporate that into the bed if it is the correct width.

Is it from the bed I sold you several years ago? If so it would be ironic of it came back to Lock Haven!

Hi Abe,
Yes, this panel is from the bed you sold me. I kept the rear Ford script for an art project which I never got around to making. The total width of this remaining piece is a little over 37". And yes, it would be ironic for sure.

Thanks Doug. I thought it was the whole back panel and then remembered that that bed came from an F2, and my 55 F350 has a wider bed.

But maybe that panel could be welded on the rear cross member of a new bed.....
