My 95' Bronco has had a problem starting ever since i got it last year. Sometimes, more when its warm out it will not start when i turn the key, everything works like normal, fuel pump relay and everything, but not starting, but if you smack the dash, steering colum or fuse panel a couple of times it will start with no trouble, the other weird thing is that sometimes the speedo wont work either, but again you just have to smack the dash. I replaced the ingnition switch, but it made no differance. I am at a total loss. any one have any ideas?
Trucky, do you have a main wiring harness connector at the firewall, under the master cylinder (with a screw in the center)? You could try unplugging the connector and spraying the contacts with WD-40, re-plugging, and tightening up the screw.
If its not starting and hitting the dashboard helps. Check the ignition switch at the base of the column. When you turn the key to start position theres a mechanical switch spring loaded inside the ignition switch that completes the circuit. Could be you need to clean the contact or adjust the position of the switch.
Sorry about the delay in answering - I'm having some internet difficulties. No, if you have an automatic then there is not clutch switch as there is not clutch. I suspect that you must have a bad connection where the cables pass through the firewall. Next time it happens, instead of pounding on the dash - try tapping areas of the firewall with a board.
ha ha, ya thanks, it has stumped me for months. I will try looking around that area. Im also going to look at the fuse panel, i think there are some issuses there. Would it be difficult to replace the whole thing?? I think some of the connections are a little loose, and they expand in the summer heat and cause these problems. again thanks
