88 f350 7.3 idi truck ran when I bought it, new lift pump, new sending unit new injector lines and return, new filter, all after I almost ran it out of diesel and now it surges down the road and sometimes will idle high like Rev up almost then die not sure what to do filter light stays on FSS is working I can hear it clicking is something just clogged up?? or is it a air intrusion, ip failure ? maybe my injectors pooped out? really just gettin aggravated at this Ole girl. if anything I'm good with wrench but not a pro. by any means, could yall maybe tell me wear to start?
filter light indicates a vacuum being pulled on filter buy the transfer pump in the IP this means you have a plugged filter or a plugged fuel line between the filter head and tank, if it has a factory lift pump could have crap in lift pump lines or bad tank switch or plugged fuel line at tank switch some thing is plugged...fuel flow problem making it surge...
surge is the injector pump running out of fuel. the filter light is injector pump drawing a vacuum in the filter like was already said.
i would get a portable fuel can and connect it directly to the lift pump. once you see it running good with no filter light there, start moving back toward the fuel tank. sooner or later you will find where the blockage is.
or you could try blowing out the line from lift pump to tank with low pressure compressed air.
but blowing out the line is a temporary fix, because whatever is in it will probably only get sucked back in.
