I have a 2003 F350 SD FWD Dually With 4.10 Axle Ratio. I'm looking for some front rotors and pads and I'm looking for recommendations. I tow a 44' Goose neck racing trailer on a regular basis so I dont want autozone crap rotors that are going to warp in a few thousand miles. I was on rockauto.com, they have Wagner, Bendix, Motocraft, Powerstop, etc etc. I thought maybe those Powerstop drilled and slotted looked interesting, but I dont know much about them. Anyone have any thoughts or something they have used and are happy with? Thanks
I went with EBC yellow stuff pads and Napa premium stock rotors. I tow a lot (probably not as heavy as you) and they perform great. Much better than whatever was on it before. Better stopping power, no fade, no vibrations or noise. But you do get a considerable amount of brake dust.
I got Stoptech Cryos on the front of truck now with EBC Yellow Stuff pads. The rears have Raybestos R-300 slotted rotors on with Hawk SD pads. I had the R-300 and Hawk SD pads on the front too but had to replace them because of a decent amount of heat checking. Plus the R-300 did give a vibration in the front from new when braking. The Yellow Stuff pads do have more brake dust than the Hawk SDs and do bite better when cold. The SD has to have some heat into them before they really start to bite.
I'd at least go with the slotted cryo rotors on the front with either pad I mentioned. You don't have to spend the money on slotted cryo rotors for the rear. Also do a complete brake system flush and get new brake hardware for the pad install.
If you're into racing (like me) you have probably heard of Hawk pads. Some of the best in the business.
Here is a link to their super duty pads that I have and use when hauling my trailers. They last a long time and stand up to the rigors of heavy towing. I could not be happier!
Had to panic stop today when a sign fell down from the wind.
Never had front brakes ABS kick in before, normally it's always the rears that tend to use the ABS first. Stopped really quick and straight, very impressed.
Just over 1500 miles on my setup...
EBC yellow stuffs with Ford OEM rotors on all 4 corners.
I also did braided brakes lines, replaced all 5 rubber hoses, 1 at each caliper and the short one at the diff.
So I went with the PowerStop Z36 Severe Duty Setup front and rear with the Extreme Carbon / Ceramic pads. Kits K188936 and K190536. Got to say this deals stopping power is impressive .
I too have the Power Stop 'kit' on my '11 and pull pretty heavy. Way better then the stock arrangement - no fade. You do need to warm them up for 100% stopping power but even that isn't a problem as cold they seem as good as the Ford OEMs. If I had only replaced pads, would have used Hawk LTS as they have given me good service on other vehicles.
