picked up this 2001 powerstroke yesterday. 212k miles. Dealer had it for sale for $13,500. A guy bought it had it for a week and brought it back on a tow truck. Said it quit running. Dealer gave him his money back.
I found it still listed and called on it. Dealer said (in a thick Russian accent) truck not for sale have engine troubles. Then asked me make an offer. So I drove up and looked it over. He told me he thinks head gasket( no oil in the reservoir, no antifreeze in the engine) oil level wasn't even on the stick. Oil all over the side and underneath. Tail pipe full of oil. I looked in the passenger wheel well and backed out shaking my head. He says what do you see, I said cracked block joking around, he said you give me $8000. So i went with it, I told him $6000 and he said no. So i said ill pass and got in my truck and left. He called me a few minutes later and said $7000. I agreed and said ill be back Saturday. So i went home talked it over with mecahnics at work and the 3 of us concureed at what the problem may be.
So long story short i went up with a trailer and another truck. Filled the engineup with oil, filled up the hpop and put fresh batteries in it. I started it up and drove it up on the trailer.........The dealer was ready to crap himself. So now I'm at home trying to remove the turbo! Its shot, side to side well over a 1/2" of play. Fingers are crossed this is the only issue. So its got a huge lift, wheels and tires (tires are new) smoked lights with strobs installed. new alternator, water pump, banks down pipe. pillar gauges , drilled and slotted rotors, new calipers and pads all the way around and a few other things. body is straight as a arrow with rock chips along the bottom.
You got yourself a hell of a deal, we had a guy come in ( I can't remember exactly I didn't work on this one) who blew a seal in the turbo and was dumping oil out of the tailpipe, thinking it can be that. Also oil all under the side of a 7.3 is usually the dip stick adapter going.

Dip stick looks good. Fingers crossed its just a turbo seal
