Question OEM Spark Plugs

I'm getting ready to do an 100k mile tune up on my V-10.

Just got the truck in August.

I went to buy plugs today from autozone and they only had the Motorcraft PLATINUM plugs.

I'm assuming that the Excursions didn't come from the factory with platinum plugs, but that's all they had listed.

So is the OEM plug copper or platinum?

I will also be doing the COP connectors at the same time and going with Motorcraft as well. Just want to be sure I'm buying and using the right plugs!

Thanks.

Motorcraft Platinums are the ones to use.

You'll have better luck at either the dealer or O'reilly, they sometimes carry OEM Ford parts. Autolite platinums are Ford's plugs before they slap the Motorcraft name on them.

I don't think the OEM Motorcraft plugs are platinum.
The current replacement plugs, Motorcraft SP479, are platinum coated.
Here's an article about the coatings - Understanding The Different Types Of Spark Plugs
I've been getting my Motorcraft SP479 plugs from an ebay seller for $2.93/ea, no tax, free shipping.
You probably do not need to change the coils, just the boots.
I've been using the NAPA Belden 702418 boots with no problems.
I'm curious, when you change the plugs can you test the torque on them first?
The factory should have torqued them all properly, but have any started to work loose?
I'm guessing bank 1 may have some a bit loose and bank 2 will be fine.
We bought our 2002 with 103K which was running great, all original.
I was just getting ready to change the plugs after collecting the parts when #3 blew out at 108k.
I will be changing plugs and boots at 50k with a retorque of the plugs at 10k.
I just did our 2003 5.4L Exped at 151K and the plugs/boots were sad.
