My 82 F150 has a 300I6 and a C6 and when hot it will keep running after i shut it off i have reset the idle
would it be the timing? the motor is new a shortblock put in in 1998 with only 7000 miles on it so is it the timing
Could be the timing. For all the effort that it takes, get a light and check it. If this doesn't solve the problem, than the engine might be carboned up. Set it up to run on a fast idle, and SLOWLY pour a little water through the carb. Don't let it stall. When you,ve gon through about half a liter, that should be enough.
Couple of other things:
1). Excessive idle speed/defective thottle position solenoid - if equipped.
2). Overly rich mixture.
3). Carbon deposits in combustion chamber - if they exist you'll need to find out why...
