95 F250 5.0 V8 4x4. Got a problem I don't understand.

1. It sputters instantly when switched to front tank and stops instantly when switched to rear tank.
2. Also, the front tank got overfilled when driving the other day. Is it coming from the rear tank?

Yes, the front tank has a bad valve inside that's why the rear tank is filling the front and most likely causing the fuel pressure to the engine drop when selected. You need a new Fuel Delivery Module.

I was told there is a check valve somewhere in each tank fuel system. Is this the valve you are talking about and is the check valve in this Module?
