need advice on which to keep

I have a 2004 excursion with 6.0 with 97,000 miles stock. Also have 1999 f250 with 7.3 with 94,000. I recently had heath issues which requires me to sell one. Which do I keep. Wife like ex best and I do have a buyer for f250 waiting. I have never had issues with my 6.0 but it does worry me. What doyou think?

Happy Wife Happy Life!

I think the Ex will pretty much pull anything the pickup will so to me it would depend if you need the pickup for hauling stuff like firewood and so on....

The 6.0 actually outpulls the 7.3 and I have trailers so do not have to have pickup. The ex would be nicer to ride in just worried about longevity of 6.0

7.3s with those kind of low miles fetch a premium in my neck of the woods. A friend bought one from another friend (I was the middleman) was a super cab Lariat LB 4x4 F350 SRW with 99K on it and he paid $18k and thought it was a steel. It would have been sold for more had it not been a friend. Friend who was buyer has had to put Glow Plug harness in, rebuilt trans (this is the 3rd on that truck), front wheel bearing and a few other things. The seller friend was original owner and meticulous on maintenance.

On the Ex you don't need to worry about the trans, but I'd do some of the 6.0 PM stuff and personally I'd keep it and sell the 7.3.

Now go ask this Q in the 7.3 forum and they'll call you crazy for even thinking of keeping, or ever owning, a 6.0

Thanks, I know it kind of a mute question and will boil down to me. 7.3 was my first diesel love but the ex is amazing.

Like you, I've had both and while I loved my '99 7.3, even with a mild chip it was a far cry from the 6.0 in power, pulling, fuel consumption, and then there's that Torqshift -- best transmission ever (though I have to say the Allison 3000 in our Motorhome is pretty sweet)...

You know what to do... say: to the 7.3....

You got that right!

I would have thought, posted and said the same last year. But now that I have both I sure do think otherwise. I still catch myself before calling it a "6 leaker". Now I enjoy the looks on people's faces when I tell them I bought a 6.0L.

To the OP - I feel your pain about the decision. I was supposed to sell our 2003 F-250 7.3L about 4 or 5 months ago. I couldn't get myself to do it. I did almost all of the work on her myself and can't seem to put the words "sell" and "7.3L" in the same sentence. So I will continue to try and keep her. But we are in different situations.

They are both great motors. The 7.3L has earned its reputation of being reliable & bulletproof. The 6.0L can be made reliable and bulletproof. To me it seems your decision will come down to which vehicle is more practical for you, not about the motor. A pick-up or Excursion - that is the question.

Sell the 7.3. Reputation alone should garner an extra $5 grand. I know you said you already have a buyer interested, but a 7.3 with less than 100k is gold nowadays. I see someone willing to pay low twenties depending on physical condition.
I've also owned both the 7.3 and currently the 6.0. It's really not fair to compare as the 6.0 is phenomenal once everything is sorted out.
