Minor noise, and it might be normal. When I have my air on, I get a sudden hissssing noise for about 2 seconds, and it happens once every 5 min or so, almost to the second. Not that loud. like a blow-off valve noise, almost. Sounds like it's coming from the passenger dash area. No other ill affects that I've noticed. Not to be confused with the popular wind/intake whistle that some have. Any theories? Almost sounds like a drop of water landing on a belt, and spinning dry. but it happens on dry days too, I think. Anyone else get that?
mine does that too, and has since the truck was new.
I have one theory about what it could be, but I'm not sure..
By default, the vent/vent light stays on open. I noticed that if I run my heat/air with the vent closed, and the windows start fogging up, it will automatically open the vent to defog/defrost.. Or maybe it's on a timer, to do that.
And if it's already open, like usual, maybe this noise is just the mechanism doing it's opening routine anyway. Like pushing the unlock button on your doors, when they're already unlocked.
I have had the same noise since new on my '15 F350 CCSB Lariat. I agree I believe it is part of the HVAC system and its automatic functioning mode. I assume its the sound of air flow through the vacuum lines. I have no idea what the underlying purpose of changing the air flow pattern might be. It has done this in the warm weather and the cold. One wholly unsubstantiated guess might be that, similar to the way the new vacuum hubs apparently work, the proportioning or directing doors may work on a pulsed vacuum system rather than a static one. Periodically reapplying the vacuum might ensure that the doors are in the proper location. Again, this is only idle speculation. Love to know the real answer.
