Daily driving mpgs?

I'm currently looking to get out of my Expedition EL and back into a truck. I want a Super Duty and I'm trying to figure out what kind of gas mileage I can expect. I drive about 45 miles round trip for work. I currently get around 17 mpg with my 5.4 expy el. Would expecting 15 with a F-250 V10 4x4 crew cab be too optimistic running the same route?

I have a 4x4 CCLB with 4.30 gears. Mixed driving, 10mpg winter, 11.5-12 summer. 13.5 On a 75mph Ohio/Kentucky trip empty w/3 adults and luggage, 8mpg towing my 5th wheel over 2000 miles of interstates.
I'd think 15 is 30% better than you should expect. I daily drive mine only because I live 7.5 miles from work. Any further and I'd have a beater for work and keep the truck in the garage.

Would a short bed with 3.73 gear improve on that number any?

From what I've seen, No. I specifically sought out a 4.30 equipped truck because from what I had read, They provided BETTER MPG than the higher geared trucks. Seems like its due to the power/economy band of the engine- But YMMV

My experience mirrors Agpopp. I think expecting 15 is very optimistic. My '99 With 373 gears, supercab, and a shortbed regularly returned 10 MPG. On a good day, it may have gotten to 12. Towing, it would go to 8-9. When I upgraded to 430 gears my towing mileage increased about 1-2 MPG but the truck drove so much better. My truck was also 2WD. I suspect 4WD would worsen mileage slightly.

Daily driving will yield somewhere between 11-13mpg on average. Factors such as jack rabbit take offs, how many stop lights, hills will affect the average by 1 or more mpg. 15 mpg is a unicorn on a V10 no matter what gearing, mod, snake oil...

I average 13.5-14 on hwy at 70. City is around 12.5-13. I have a 2v V10 CCLB 4X4 and keep it well maintained. I do have 5 Star tunes and keep it set on 87 octane Performance. I can increase my mpgs by 1-2 if I use the 87 Economy tune, but I did not buy the truck to get gas mileage. And besides, eco tune is boring.

So, with a 5 star tuner you could see 15 possibly?

Yes, I have before. But keep in mind this was empty highway, NOT city, driving and there are not a lot of hills where I live and drive. So, I am an exception.

Maybe I should have said this in my initial post, so as not to get hopes up or catch the proverbial 'you are full of S#!^' replies.
