Just did it again this morning and completely forgot to check the amp draw or my gauges. Ugh

What does ICPV on the Scan Gauage do when it's acting up?

I had an intermittent long start when cold last winter, changing the ICP sensor solved it. No idea why.

Manifested itself on the gauges as: ICPV would not change when I started cranking from the KOEO value, then at some random point during the crank (5-10 seconds, inconsistently) it would jump and the PCM would fire the injectors.
* No codes ever popped.
* Only happened after overnight/8+ hour cold soaks, and once it happened once it wouldn't do it again on subsequent restarts until another long cold soak.
* If I unplugged the ICP sensor before the first start in the morning it solved the initial long-crank.
* Not that I can convert ICPV to psi in my head on the fly, but I never noticed the two gauges drastically diverging after it started; ICPV/ICP psi were at the same levels at hot idle before and after the sensor change
* ICP sensor appeared fine externally, no oil at all in the wiring connector
* No hot restart problems or any other HPO-related issue indicators
* No recurrence after the new sensor went in, did NOT replace the pigtail

Best I can guess is something internally with the sensor went screwy? I don't like recommending blind part swapping, but that was the solution that worked for me.

I just checked my codes again and P0148 is back. Fuel delivery error it says. I wonder if it is ficm related...just read this article

6.0 Power Stroke FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) Diagnosis | Diesel IQ

And saw that if cam and crank sensors arent in sync, ficm sync won't occur. I wonder if that's in the area of my problem?

Did it again this morning. Voltage dropped to 10.2, ICP voltage shot to 4.5 and hovered at 4.2 while cranking away. It's 39* outside

Check the sensor connectors for oil contamination. Sometimes the O-rings on the sensors leak and you don't get a good signal.

The cam was fine, the crank sensor is last resort cause I've heard it is an absolute pain to get at

10.2v isn't a problem for a very short period, as long as it came right back after it starts. Book say's anything above 9.5 is OK for a short duration.

ICP voltage at 4.5v is around 3600psi and 5v is 4000psi. ICP@4.2v is 3400psi. Did you try the ICP unplugged for a period of time?

I'd say its giving the proper pressure, it's probably waiting on a signal to fire the injectors. Are you tuned? You may have a FICM logic problem. And you did check fuel pressure? Bowl fills fast? Pump shuts off after 20 seconds or so once it gets to pressure?

Talk to Ed, he maybe can shed some light on it..

Have not tried with ICP unplugged. It's an 03 so its rather inconvienent to unplug.

I am tuned. I have not checked to see how fast the bowl fills, but I have an isspro EV2 fuel pressure gauge and it is always at 65 idle and never drops below 50 on hard pulls.

I talked to ed and he doesn't think its ficm related but I think I'm gonna send it to him anyways to get it checked over before my trip

maybe load the stock tune and confirm its still an issue. ICP's a pain, I'd pull it Miles, before you spend a bunch of .... money for nothing..... Dire Straights.

It's alright to just drive around with it unplugged right? I just replaced it with a ford sensor over the summer

I think I recall reading you can put an 05-07 sensor in and it works fine but its slightly more robust sensor?

yes, won't hurt a thing, will give a code for it. Just clear it when you plug it back in.
