1987 and up 351 w pros and cons?

Hi I have a 1985 f250 with the 4.9 ,t18 transmission.
I wonder about the pros and cons of using a 1987 and later 351 Windsor. I know I'll get better heads and the serpentine belt system. I will be running a carburetor ds2 ignition.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

A lot of folks prefer to find a '94 and newer 351. These are all EFI, but can easily be converted to carburetor. These engines use a roller cam, and typically make a little extra power. The roller cam is advantageous for a number of reasons, including better aftermarket options, trouble free break in, etc. A set of GT40, or GT40P heads will wake one of these engines up a little bit more.

Yes you will. And when you start mixing and matching old v-belt stuff with serpentine, you may open up a can of worms. Never done it before, when I converted a engine from efi to carb I swapped it all over.

You probably need to look at/change the timing chain anyway. Then that means a new oil pan gasket too. If the engine is from a car you are going to need to change the oil pan and oil pump pickup tube also.

Ty for the info.
I swapped a FI 302 for a 69 351w
From a cougar a few years ago...
Switched pan, pickup, etc.
Just wondering about possibilities....
Would like to get the benefits of a roller engine, if it's not too much of a pain in the ***.
What do you think about the HO motor ? Worth looking for? Looking mostly for torque build, not looking to tow. Just love the torque!
