Lift kits

Hey guys I have a 02 f250 powerstroke and I wanna put a suspension lift kit on it I wanna go with a 6 inch lift but I'm afraid if I go any higher than a 4 inch I'll have to change to much. Can anyone tell me what I would have to change and if I would have to extend any of my brake lines also the truck is a cab and a half with an 8 foot bed so I do have a carrier baring on the drive shaft would I have to change anything with that?

I'm no expert but I would say anything above 4" you are looking at doing a lot to make it right. You could cut corners and save money but I wouldn't even do that. I have a 2.5" leveling kit and it came with a drive shaft carrier bearing shim I installed. Even at that height it also came with drop bracket for my track bar. Neither of the two were needed I don't think, but the kit came with it and wasn't much more time to install so I did it.

Many people will talk you into certain things you need but IMO there are items that are not necessary. Hear what they have to say and check your local 4x4 shop if you have one specializing in Fords and see what they have to say and compare. Then if you have the money invest in a really nice kit and go the long haul and not cut corners.

By the way I know the 6" looks damn nice on a F350 DRW, I sold a tonneu cover to a guy and he had it installed on his truck. When he pulled up I was in heaven and wish him and I could just swap trucks!

Well thank you for the input I think I'm gonna take your advice and go with the 4 inch kit. I called a customs shop today that installs lift kits and they said there's not much difference between the 4 and the 6 except the fact that you need a bigger tire size with the 6 and I really didn't want to go any taller than a 33 that way I can still get the 10.50 width

Well your gonna find that a leveling kit will still allow you to clear 33" tires. But a 4" kit should look good with those tires maybe a little gap in wheel well area. For a 6" ideally you would want 35" but could run 37" with some trimming I think.

For what you want though the 4" should work, have you done a search to see what the truck will look like? What kit your going to install or have your local shop do it?

For 33x10.50" tires, save your money on a lift and just get a 2" level kit. You will have more than enough room, trust me. For 35" tires, a 4" lift will be perfect (my '99 F250 ran 35's with a 4" lift with not a single problem). For 37" tires, a 6" lift will be required. This is from my experiences. For a 4" lift, you will have to get expended brake lines. For a 6" lift, Longer brake lines and extended drive shafts. Both 4" and 6" will require a drop pitman arm and a drop trac arm bracket. The last thing you want is to be at full flex and snap a brake line or have your drive line slip apart.

Well I think I'm gonna stick with the 4 inch lift I'm fine with extending my brake lines and stuff like that but one problem I'm having is I can't seem to find any tires of the right size not even in a 35. Any suggestions were I can get tires off the Internet?

On my '99 F250, I was running 315/75R16 which equate to 34.6X12.4R16. If you are dead set on running 33's, look into 305/70R16 which equate to 32.8X12.01R16. You can play with different tire sizes on this website-

a 285 75 r 16 is basically a 32.8 X 11" tire, and should fit on a stock truck. i run 285s winter and 305's summer with no lift and i dont have any problems with rubbing, but i do have the x code springs.

My '02 has a 4" lift and 315/75R16 (35") tires. They never rub, even with no trimming, and the power loss is tolerable. I'd love to go with a 6" lift and 37" tires, but it wouldn't fit in my garage and I don't think it would work well with my slide-in camper.

Do you have to extend the brake lines? or is that more for if you off road??

The stock brake lines still work, but you may have to "tweak" the brackets slightly to get a little more droop.

No but you do have to bend the bracket that holds the brake line to the frame down which gives you some extra length in the brake lines.

what is the maker and model number for a 4" drop bracket on the track bar? ive been searching, im thinking just running without it, and flipping the frame mounts for the sway bar to the bottom of the frame going with that.
