Well after some long patient looking I finally took ownership of my first Ex today. This was rare find in my mind:
2000 Excursion XLT V10
1 owner California car
garage kept
V10
64000 miles!!!
All maintenance records
original window sticker
used for extremely light towing (pontoon boat, 4500 lb travel trailer and then only kept to tow a golf cart to/from a hunt club).
Here is a pic from the seller. I will post more once I do my first detail job!
Oh yeah, I live in Anderson, SC, so I bought it sight unseen and had it shipped across the country :-). Even with shipping costs I am still about $1000 under KBB private party retail for this great Truck!
Now onto my first repair question. The door lock actuators seem to be sluggish/not working on almost every door. I have read that they are an issue, but my question is do I need to replace all the actuators, or can I simply remove the door panels and lubricate the locking mechanism? When I push the locks manually they seem very stiff.
I hope to learn a lot from this forum in the coming years as this is my new daily driver and will hopefully be put to good use towing a travel trailer in the future.
Dang nice score Kevin ! WELCOME to the world of XXXs
Please add Anderson SC to your profile. The actuators are cheep, cheep on ebay or Amazon ($40). Get a whole set & put them on as needed. Go 2 the tech folder for the how to.

Updated location and vehicle.
What's the consensus on replace vs. repair door lock actuators? I found the tech article to repair, but for the money is it a better option to replace. Do replacements last longer than repaired units or vice versa?
Congrats and nice find! I just bought a California 2001 V10 couple months ago. Mind if I ask what you got it for?
$7200 then it cost $1150 to ship, but still a great buy in comparison to the 140k mile examples that I was finding in the same price range. Most of those were limiteds, but all this one is missing is heated seats and parking sensors, it has leather, power driver's seat, power rear vent windows, trip computer/compass/temperature and auto dim rearview!
Nice X!
Actuators are a pain to repair vs replacement cost... be sure to occasionally check your rear hatch lock also. It'll get intermittent, and then some low-life comes by and relieves you of your groceries/ tools, etc.
Enjoy!
I assume we will end up with. 28-32' TT as we will have 4 kids as if July this year, so I will be looking for a quad bunkhouse when the time comes.
Think I'll order some door lock actuators today, and I already checked the hatch and it needs to be replaced too.
Any chance that the actuators are ok and I just need to lube the linkages? I talked to the previous owner and he said he literally never used the locks. It was garages at home, they beside it when they camped and everyone at the hunt club was armed so he didn't worry about it 😀. I can hear all of them try to actuate, but just not strong enough to move the linkages. Just want to make sure I don't replace something that isn't actually broke.

Check out the Jayco Jay Feather X254. That's what we have for our 4 kids. Lightest quad bunkhouse you'll find. King bed slide out in rear. We love it! 27 ft tip to tip w/slide in and 35 or so with slide out. The Ex tows it like a dream.
It's possible, but the OEM actuators are notorius for their failures.
You could clean up the linkages and lube with something that won't attract dirt like dry graphite or silicone spray and try it first- then replace the actuator if that doesn't work. It's not much work to get at them.
