I just realized my driver's side front leaf spring on my 2002 F250 has snapped. I checked the weight sticker on my truck and it weighs 5200lbs in the front. My question is the heaviest springs I found only support 2630lbs a piece, so being a 7.3 is 5200lbs a correct weight for the front of this truck? also why would Ford make springs that support only 60lbs more than the front weight? Hell I weight more than 60lbs.... Did I snap the damn thing just by climbing into the cab?!?!
5200 pounds is what the front axle is rated to carry not what it actually weighs. Those springs should work just fine as they are actually rated for more weight than the front axle is.
springs only HOLD the axles to the truck.. the springs support body/engine/load...
and you are talking about springs that are 13 years OLD. not new springs....
even semi-tractor trailers break spring....
anything that bends/moves will fail at some point... that is LIFE. they do NOT heal like a cut on your arm ,
ahhhhhhhh thanks for the help guys, I knew it was a matter of time before the spring snapped. I was just a little uneducated as to the dynamic workings of the springs themselves. Thanks for clearing it up!!
