I have a 4.6L in my truck and am looking to have a flowmaster installed but am not sure which series to buy. I want the performance and sound but don't want it too loud. Any suggestions?
If you want an agressive sound outside but not to loud inside I recomend the Flowmaster 40 Series (Delta Flow) (single in dual out) with two pipes exiting out the back of your truck.
I have the '03 supercrew that I had the flowmaster 40 with dual exhaust out the back and when setting in the rear seat at highway speed, there is a lot of roaring at times. Going to exchange the 40 for maybe a 50 or 60 series.
The 70 is very quiet untill you go to WOT. A little burbble at idle, a mild runble when accelerating normally, no drone or resonance at cruise. That's with a 300, with a 4.6 YMMV
Thanks guys, I think I'll go for the 50 series single in, two out with dual exiting behind the tires. Any idea as for the diameter of the dual pipes? Is it true that the lower the number the louder and higher the number the less noisy?
My step-father's f150 has a single 3" in dual 2.5" out. But his is the 40 series delta flow. I haven't noticed much resonance inside the cab like most people say (even in the back seat). The 40 series delta flow mufflers are designed to be agressive outside and mellow inside. You may be happy with the 50 series but those are just too quiet for me.
The 50 series is exactly what you're looking for!! Nice bark at startup, mellow burbly idle, quiet when cruising, and fairly aggressive when accelerating.
Go with the 40 series delta flow great sound but not too loud. Thats what I had on my '99 5.4L and I wouldn't have it any other way. Single in, dual out.
