Dash randomly goes out...?
I am having the same problem on an 07'. Its heat sensitive, and when I tap
the right side of the instrument cluster it comes back on after its heated up. Running the defrost speeds up the process.
I ordered a replacement from here today:

Most likely this is your problem. I messed with all the fuses and relays first btw.
Your power windows and dome light probably don't work either.
But the map light probably does I'll bet.

When it happened the car would stay runnning, but if you turned it of it wouldn't restart. After many hours of measuring it turned out to be a broken wire in the area of the firewall plug. On the Lincoln, there were multiple wires supplying the inside with power from the battery and only one was broken. Hence it would work most of he time, just sometimes it would disconnect (like when going over a bump, or when it's cold outside). A 30ct fix but many hours to find.
Keep a good multimeter in the car and hook up some wires so you can measure voltage input (like to the radio/hvac/...) while driving. Hook your multimeter up to one and next time it happens, see if you still have power there. If not, follow the wire until you find the area where there's still power on the wire. Somewhere in between, it'll be broken.
THat's how I would start.
Good luck.

I just repaired a cluster from a 2004 F450 with this problem. Granted if your not a tech with the proper tools it can be daunting. not sure what part of the repair did it but this should help a few out there. I resoldered the left and right side of the large 9s12 Micro and the left and right sides of the smaller IC to the right and all my problems were gone. I used regular fine rosin core solder, electronics grade solder station with a pencil tip. and solder wick. For the Micro, flood the pins with solder, use the solder wick to pull back the excess and use a magnifying glass to ensure there are no shorts. On the smaller IC I just re-flooded the pins and checked for shorts.

fixed the problem. It shipped quick also. If you go the
CurcuitBoard-Medics route, make sure they put bulbs in. LOL Mine
was missing all the replacement bulbs. Called them up and
they are sending them out. Good people to deal with.
And cheaper than buying a unit from Ford.
Shepherd2's fix is way beyond my abilities.
