Well Glenn. I want to sure about that one and I tore into it. The trusty old volt meter never lies. I only had to identify one line. My thoughts were running lights for the duals, power for the box, or brake light. It failed the first two and lit up when my daughter pressed the brake pedal. It was than confirmed with some abstract research of pin out for a light switch somewhere.

crazy? Yes... we all are.

This truck has 12 wires going to the back from the front. The trailer signal wiring is separate from the tail light loom.

Dragging this thread back into the lime light.

I have bought yet another green crewcab. That makes it three. I decided to sell the second one that has a 351 would require a full working swap to work and I would still have to paint it. I also found the gutters to be leaking. That's all patched up now and it has a box and a red and black fender on it. A guy at work wanted to drive it away right away. I told him to have a look at it and make a decision after he had a chance to run it. I guess that scared him.

Anyway this potential sale had me scrambling to find another cab that was the right color and 7.3 powered. VERY UNLIKELY! Well turns out a guy an hour away was selling a 96 crew dually 2wd half torn apart and was not making a partial sale. I bought ALL OF IT! And a rat nest or two.

Now all three are at the house. I used to live in a nice neighborhood with million dollar homes. Well I fixed that and the wife told me to clean up the junkyard.

All three lined up.
Now the fun can begin. I stated by looking at it and deciding it was worth the effort and chaos.

The last two days I have spent cleaning the carpet and the seats. I have cleaned a lot of nasty car interiors with decent results. This truck was BAD. I may give up on the carpet. I'll give it another day. I do have gray vinyl and black vinyl to choose from.

The wing window was broken on the truck. The mirror hit something and bent the top edge of the door and deformed the wing window frame enough to pop the glass. Any way the truck had been sitting on a farm for an untold length of time with out the window pcm or idm. Needless to say cats, rats and wasps were all up in there shatting, barfing and building nests. It smelled bad.

I am pretty excited about the seats so they were the first to go into the front yard with lots if cleaner, the hose and the shop vacuum followed by two days of sunning them until dry. I was going to store them until the cab swap but decided to use them.

The carpet has so much dirt and pee in it I am skeptical, but it's a 3 day weekend so it can go another day of washing.

The cab is now unbolted sitting on the donor truck. It needs to be tunneled for exhaust to fit correctly. I look forward to that because I know what I want.

I plan to pull the dash when I do this work and will clean more as well as do some sound proofing. If anyone has suggestions with results on materials they have used I would like to hear about it.

The cab does need a little work. There is a dent in the roof and one sill needs to be straightened.

It seems the factory used foam plugs on the rear cab corners. I didn't expect that.

I hope to have a fresh transmission to go in as well. It will be a hybrid but not to the level of sophistication that HitmanX can achieve!

That is correct Aaron. Have it in my mind that the 2wd dually frame may be a keeper with a set of newer SD axles under it. I'll see what comes up over the next few months.

Maybe I should just build the 96 as a coil over 4wd truck. Parts shouldn't be hard to find.

I have 72 square feet of Noico sound deadening mat and closed sell foam coming to sound proof the cab. If I don't have enough I will either skip the rear wall of the cab or the rear doors and do them once I get more.

I will pull the dash to build the new exhaust tunnel. It will accommodate a 4" DP in the event I loose my mind and get a set of Hybrids......

Nate I think pulling the dash is the way to go. I recall looking at the Noico stuff when I did mine. Let us know what you think of it. And definitely do tell if you lose your mind and go hybrids.

As stated in the other thread sound deadening may be a waste of money on this truck but it will be a bit better that it currently is.

I have ordered the energy suspension cab bushing set with fasteners now I need to man up and fab the new tunnel piece. I think I will put a flange on it and use body panel adhesive with a few plug welds to hold it in place.
