My new to me 97 evidently has had the ignition switch replaced before. There is no key to unlock the doors, but works in the ignition. Door locks work fine from the inside. I'm wondering about getting a new doohickie for my key chain to lock/unlock the doors. Can I get one and where? How do I program it if I can? It's not a big deal I can't lock the doors where I live, but wouldn't mind being able to sometimes.
I bought a set on Ebay several years ago but found out the mare didn't have that factory feature. The OX does and brought this question up in Williams thread:
On ebay they sell the set of door locks and ignition for like $78 I also have different keys for ignition and door lock im buying them soon cause I hate different keys on one vehicle.
I also have separate door and ignition keys on my 95.
Here is some info for you.
The key chain remote buttons boxes are called FOB. Ford calls their system RKE (remote keyless entry).
We use Type 2 or Type 3.
I bought my fob on ebay.
If you have factory RKE then the module is behind the pocket in the knee kick panel under the steering wheel. It is a box with 3 wire connections on it.
RKE module. Not my picture
You program key fob by shorting the 2 pins in the gray connector with the key in the ignition turned to on.
If you don't have the module and you really want it, it can be added if you are electronically inclined. I added the module for the key fob and then added button keypad to my door using instructions found on powerstroke.org.

Since adding RKE to my truck I have only used my key a handful of times to unlock the doors.
If you don't have factory RKE and you aren't interested in the door keypad buttons then an aftermarket remote start would be just about as easy to install to get remote unlocking.
