The bids already submitted lol. If I get it, itll be for $2100.
Around here, these tucks are hard to come by, in any condition. If theyre fairly straight they go for sky high (from what little looking Iv done)
My only issue is, Im pretty picky about what truck I need. If I don't get this one, Ill be looking for a diamond in the rough. I pull a trailer often so I almost need a F-250 (or F-350). Plus the reason for buying an older truck is so I have something to drive in the winter so 4wd is a must. Then of course a manual tranny is nice Those trucks don't go for $1000 in any condition
Id buy that '73 F-350 Super Camper Special that's on here if 4wd conversions were easy lol
Did they make a 4wd Camper Special? Thatd be ideal

i shudder to think of what kind of milage such a beast might get. i know what mine gets, and it ain't pretty... and people tell me mine is actually somewhat decent for that engine
(10mpg around town, around 7-7.5 hauling the pictured trailer)
460's weren't offered in 4wd from the factory until 1980 (I wanna say). You couldn't get 4x4 Dent w/ a 460. I don't think I have ever seen a 4x4 Camper special, but once again, I could be wrong. There are a few Broncos that are trailer specials.
Klaw, I'm getting the same mileage with my 79' SC w/ 460.

Maybe you can expand your search area a bit. I know that adds some cost to move the vehicle, so not always practical, but honestly I run across them frequently for not much over $1000 asking price (which often means paying $1000). In fact, I've passes on several F250 4x4s for the simple fact that I really wanted 2wd instead with a 390 and no rust to repair. I only had to wait about 1 month for the Camper Special I bought to show up, and as part of an estate sale it was a good buy.
Here's a CL ad for a F250 4x4 with manual transmission at $1300 here in the Seattle area. Most of our Ford dentsides are pretty rust free if they were here most of their life. This one has some surface rust on the bed, but my guess is that it's otherwise pretty solid and that sort of rust here usually can be dealt with easily. Based on other Fords around here, I'd be more surprised to find it rusty than not, even at that price. It says that it has a 400 in it, with carburetor problems, but my guess is that it really has tank/pump/fuel line problems and there just isn't any gas getting to the engine. Not sure about elsewhere, but the Fords I run across here tend to have bad gas in the tank combined with a bad fuel pump. Replacing the fuel pump and then testing the engine by running a fuel hose out of a 5 gallon gas can usually shows that the fuel tank is gummed up and the carburetor is not so bad.
The '79 F150 4x4 I used to have also had a 400 in it and I was pretty impressed by that engine. Combined with crazy high rearend ratio, I can't imagine there is anything an F250 with a 400 couldn't tow (though at a max of 50-60 mph!). My neck used to literally hurt from driving that truck in traffic to the extent that I was not going to get anything with more than a 3.73 gear this time around. You could barely touch the gas pedal (auto, not manual) without the torque lurching the truck, so stop and go traffic was a nightmare.
For towing, I prefer the simplicity of a 2wd, which is why I got rid of the 4x4 and went with the 2wd this time around. It would be a real dilema to live where you need 4wd, I'd almost want two different trucks. One for winter and one for towing.

If you are patient you can find them cheap I got my 79 supercab F150 4x4 with a 400 for $700 and drove it home. I have spent a little over $300 on it since and it runs and starts perfectly. Only rust is the driver's floor pan. Fix that and new cab seals and it will be a great daily driver. Craigslist will pull through. You just have to give it time
keep your eyes open as you drive around, too. i found mine on the side of the road. (incredible story thereof linked in my sig for anyone interested...)
I wouldn't say these come up every week, but it's probably every other week or so within 2 hours of Seattle. Hopefully you'll find one in your neck of the woods!
Dear Lord Mr Ford. I must have been entering stuff wrong in to CL. I just typed in 72-79 Ford's and my-o-my what a difference! There's more trucks around here than previously thought. I can buy The exact truck I want for less than $3000. Heck thres a couple on there on 40s for $4000
I have found Craigslist to have a pretty poor search engine.Even some of my OWN ads cannot be brought up at times unless different word variations are used and I know the darn titles. So,yes, 73-79,1977,77,F100,F150 ,Ford truck, etc, etc, will find that one ad, finally, at times. Good luck! Gary
