Whats It Worth

Hey guys. Its hard to get a value on these old trucks so I figured Id ask you guys!

A local fire department is decommissioning an old pick-up. They've removed all the fire dept stuff off of it and selling the truck. The paper in the window doesn't specify engine size but it did say it has a 4 speed (obviously) and it only has 14,800 miles. Yes you read that right. The trucks in good shape other than its an odd yellow color and they just spray painted over the fire dept logos on the doors. Theyre selling it by sealed bid: you mail in your name with the amount your willing to pay and the high bidder gets it. No one knows who bid what, or how many people have bid for that matter, so its a one shot deal.

Its a small town and I hardly doubt its advertised so no big city museum owner is going to step in and pay out their nose for it. Most guys probably see an old pick-up but im sure theres others like me who see a gem. What do you guys think its worth

If it is a 1967 F350 with a 427 Cammer I would guess 100k.

Otherwise hard to put a value on a truck we don't know much about.

Make
Model
Year
Drivetrain
etc.

Whoops I left out all the important stuff lol

1974 F-250 Custom

Dunno engine size, but it does have a 4 speed and 4wd. Brand new tires too!

Assuming its a plain truck with few options, little rust, straight and without seeing it anywhere from $2500 to $5000 would be my guess depending on condition.

Likely has 360, is a highboy and probably has no ac etc.

Pictures? Hard to tell with out seeing it.

That is real low mileage and it probably has a very good maintenance record? Most FD are very meticulous about maintenance due to the need for reliability .

But with that old of a truck that has been just setting for most of its life, well as soon as you try to make it a DD, all the seals can start to puke fluid.

We need pics, but if it is rust free, I bet 2500 to 3000 should buy it, and put you well above the wannabee's.

But you never know, I'd hate to miss a good deal for 25 bucks. Roll the dice make the bid, the higher you go the better your chance's are to own it.

It all depends on how bad YOU want to own it. I should of bid on this one....I think it went for cheap.

Now THAT is a gem! I wish this one was a 1 ton but beggars can't be choosers lol. I honestly didn't look at the truck real close since I was in the company truck. I snapped a pic before I left but it's not the greatest and photobucket isn't cooperating. The only two things I saw that I could complain about was the vinyl floor was half gone and it has a ridiculously tall headache rack bolted to the bed. I'm sure it had a purpose but it's still way up there. I'll try to post a pic later

Hey I got it!

If you know some one on the city council, and you ask some left handed, not to up front questions and show some genuine interest in it, maybe a little bird will tell you what it will take to buy it? Unless some one on the city council wants it worse than you.

I am not saying to cheat, just work the system. Headache rack and brush truck front bumper will come right off, new complete vinyl floor can be bought.

Looks nice enough for a old all stock rig. 2500 to 4000 if it is as clean under the body and under the hood. Grill shell has a ding under the hood F and the door has a ding on the lower edge.

A few dings don't hurt. Makes you wonder how they got the grill with that tree pusher on there.

Do any of you fellers take your trucks on longer distance road trips? How do they do? This will be my first truck older than 1989 lol (which I did take on a 24 hour non stop road trip delivering a car)

More than once I have drove my old silver truck 80 miles (one way), took an hour and a half to a FTE G2G, does that count for long distance? MPG is not the best.

Blue truck has been on further ones than that, some folks on here have driven way longer distances, successfully might I add.

I have a 79' F250 2wd, I drove from Monterey, CA to Tacoma, WA over the course of 2 days. That's darn near 1000 miles AND it was loaded to the gills and towing my Saturn. I've also driven from Boise to Tacoma and back twice. 515 miles each way. Both times I was towing (a UHaul and a 25' Vintage-read 'heavy'-trailer). Never once had a problem.

Cool shots! I've never seen a Ranger trim model used as a fire truck, usually it's a custom. My favorite year and trim package on that one.

There is a fire department not terribly far from here selling one of their trucks as well. Same deal as the OP listed. Real low miles, base model '74 F-250 4x4. They are asking over 10k for theirs though... it has not sold as of the last time I looked.
