Oil filter removal isues.

Cant get this thing off.
Strap wrench with a breaker bar. Chain wrench. Its twisting and crushing like a beer can. Im sure its about to rip apart if I put any more muscle to it. Tried heating it with my little torch but don't think im getting it hot enough. It was under 20 degrees though.

Ive done 90% of the oil changes on this truck except for the last one. Dealer in another state did it while dealing with other issues while I was on the road.

Plugged in the block heater. Hopefully that will soften the rubber seal.

Any other ideas?

Anybody see a problem with having the block heater plugged in for a couple hrs without oil in the pan?

Go to NAPA and get a big oil wrench.

My normal oil wrench on the left. My NAPA big wrench on the right.

The filter is so squashed that I don't think that would help.

Well, you'll be heating the oil filter through conduction. It's attached to the same end of the oil cooler as the oil filter after all . . .

They don't give us much room to work with around that filter. Here's a link to discussion on it with a lot of ideas from different people.

Finally got it!!!!
Not sure if plugging it in helped much but it was warm.
Also took my map gas to it for about 10 minutes.
Nylon strap wrench/18"Extension/Breaker Bar/and a 3' cheater bar did the trick.
Motocraft filter is as big around as a beer can now. Crushed that SOB. Cant believe it never ripped and leaked.

No matter what happens, all is not lost. I was looking through that link that Walleye Hunter posted and there is one post where the whole filter shredded and there was nothing left...same thing happened to me on the first change on my truck. Once i got to this mess i ripped the entire filter off and was left with only the top ring. Thought i was screwed, but there's a bunch of holes in the top ring and i threaded two bolts in them and used a pry bar to turn the filter on these. Kinda hard to explain, but it'll make sense if you get to that point. Just want to give you some hope if things start looking bad

Not sure if this will prevent future oil filter removal problems, my first oil change step is to loosen the oil filter until I see a small trickle of oil from the top of the filter. Then I pull the pan plug and drain the oil. After that I punch a hole in the oil filter and allow to drain. I learned the hard way that the oil filter can be really difficult to remove if not loosened first.

Leaking. I had to tighten the filter down a little with a filter wrench. Still leaking.
Going to crank it down a little more tomorrow but im nervous of what im going to be dealing with at my next filter change.

I have been installing filters for over 36 yr applying [new] oil on gasket & tighten with both hands [maybe one hand on tiny filters] for every engine imaginable & they always come off with minimal effort with filter wrench, had a few leak & replaced, refused to retighten unless desperate.

Are you sure that the gasket came off and it's not stuck to the block there? Check that old filter and see if it's there or not. An old gasket stuck on the block can cause a leak.
