Need opinion

I am deciding between a Ford Explorer and a BMW 540.

I think the BMW is a far better car and I am worried about Ford having many recalls. But I wouldn't want to be looked at as a wuss or anything. I mean, the Explorer is far better at whizzing around the Home Depot parking lot; I wouldn't want to get the bimmer all dinged up there. And the bimmer would not be good for pulling out stumps or carrying wads of sheetrock.

Please give me your opinion.

Umm, you come to a "Ford Truck" site to ask that question....

Go for an F250, extended cab, long bed, 4x4.

That would be my choice.

Almost Forgot - welcome to FTE "Ford Truck Enthusiasts".

Know how to tell the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

A porcupine has the ****** on the outside!

Well...you're comparing apples and oranges here. It really depends on what your needs are. A 540i is totally awesome. My aunt has one and I love to drive the hell out of it. But here's the drawback. It couldn't carry anything.

Whenever she needs to buy something other than groceries, such as an TV or a computer, she needed my help because I have the Explorer.

Hell, if I had the money, I'll just buy both the 540i and the Explorer or shoot, get an F-150 or Silverado and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Hey, 96explorereddib, I'm sure your aunt is a most gracious lady and a considerate driver, but I bet if she finds out how you're driving her creampuff, she'll tan your bee-hind but good!

Shhhhh...lets keep this down low.

But seriously, she doesn't mind as long as I don't get into an accident and I'm a very careful driver, especially when I'm not driving my own car.

Go for the Explorer. Parts are more readily available and cheaper in price for the Ford unless you have the extra $$$ to spend on the Bimmer. Good luck!

I don't understand. Doesn't the car come with all of the necessary parts?

Haha...I think he's talking about replacement parts. Ford parts tend to be a lot cheaper than BMW parts.

Why would I replace the parts?

Well...if something breaks or go haywire, you need to replace the part. Such as the IAC or the PCV. Ford parts are a lot cheaper compared to the ones from BMW.

Pony Trekker. Heres some info. When i got my car, i was faced with the decision of my Aunts old 1995 BMW 750il(flagship of BMW) or my 1996 Xplorer. With much thought and consideration, i ended up picking the X, because i drove the bimmer for about a week trying to decide, and man! was it nice, but yet it cost 60 dollars every time i filled up, and my aunt had that thing in the shop countless times, and buying parts for that car are a b**ch. As with most cars, something will need to be replaced sooner or later, and the Explorer's parts are oh so much cheaper. And another thing, although BMWs keep theyre retail price better than explorers, i think the buying public with the money for a bimmer, wouldnt buy a used 5. If you want to know anymore of my reasons, just ask. Be sure to post your decision. Oh, and by the way, my aunt drove my explorer, loved it, and she wanted to buy one, but they werent big enough for her, so she got an escalade.

Pony, from your post in another forum,
"Re: Need Advice: What Would You Guys Do?

PonyTrekker: That's what you get for dealing with Found on Road Deads. Seriously, try a news station, better business bureau, etc."

If that is your mentality on fords, why even bother with your decison. Maybe being a wuss in a bimmer would be better for you. Maybe you dont deserve a ford?
